A Prince Among Men
The passing of W. Curtis Porter is saddening to our entire family. Early in my preaching a friend told me to pick out a man who knew the Bible and in whom I could depend to help and counsel with me I picked out W. Curtis Porter and he has never caused me to think I made the wrong choice.
I knew him when I labored with the church in Steele, Missouri, and he preached in meetings for us there. We spent each Thursday together when we were not away from home in meetings. We were closer when I moved to Blytheville, Ark., and he preached for us there and helped with the daily radio work.
We have been together in debates, meetings, lectures and other work. He is a prince among men. He was lovable, kind, sacrificing and in every sense of the word a Christian. He will be missed by all who knew him and loved him.
Brother Porter suffered more financial loss in the church than any man I know because of his firm and loyal stand for Truth. His many books did not enjoy the wide sale they would have had he gone with the popular crowd. His convictions were not for sale.
Brother Porter has had more than 70 debates and preached in meetings in many states. He is a great man the church will not replace in our generation. We will look to the time when we can meet again and know the warm personality of one we loved so much.
