Isn't It Strange

Floyd D. Chappelear

Much has been said and written about "whatever the individual does it is the church doing it", but one is made to wonder how sincerely the advocates of such a doctrine really believe in it. The reason such is taught is so that the church treasury can be tapped for contributions to human institutions under the guise that it is one and the same as if the individual were giving the money.

Yet, isn't it strange that when the financial statements are being mailed out with the list of contributors given that these same brethren do not then make that mistake? Why don't they just list the contributions without making a distinction as to whether or not the one making the donation was an individual or a church? If what the individual is doing the church is doing then the gift should be credited to whatever town the gift came from and just put down, "church of Christ." The reason the distinction is made? The reason is self-evident. Those giving the money (Individuals) know the difference between what the individual does and what the church is doing and those receiving the funds know it equally well. Both realize that if the individual credits were not given, the contributions would cease to flow. With such a thought one is made to wonder whether or not the contributions are being made in order to receive the praises of men.

Isn't it strange?
