"Ye Shall Know The Truth, And The Truth Shall Make You Free"
We as Christians hold tenaciously to the words of our Saviour knowing, for a certainty, they "...are spirit and life." We feel the need of no other source of information pertaining to our eternal redemption. Peter expressed it with the authority of God when he said, "Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." (Acts 4:12.
Yet as much as we can realize the all-sufficiency of Christ as our Saviour, and the completeness of the Bible as the revelation from God, we must realize the efforts of Satan to discredit Christ and corrupt His word. Such corruption is firmly implied in Jesus statement in John 8:32, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." The truth makes it possible to know the way of salvation. It tells us all we need to know or can know about the way of salvation.
We have an abundance of divine evidence that many could and would be led astray. Paul stated in II Thess. 2:7, "...the mystery of iniquity doth already work..." Paul was also concerned about the Ephesians that they might "...be tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine..." (Eph. 4:11). Paul even got specific in his letter to Timothy, stating that some had made shipwreck of their faith "...of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander..." (I Tim. 1:19,20). Error working its way into the thinking of man and corrupting the pure way of truth was then working and has not ceased to work down through the centuries.
If error could be so effective in apostolic times surely it would be found and could be just as effective today. It behooves us to "...prove all things, hold fast that which is good." (II Thess. 5:22)
A good thing to impress upon our minds is that we should not be so naive to think that everything offered in the name of religion or even as that proclaimed as the truth will save, regardless of who may offer it or how good it might seem. The ONLY source of salvation or a knowledge of it is God and His word. Thus let us know the truth that we might truly be free.
