Our first Sunday contribution was over $1,200.00. We have already gone over the top of our goal in Bible study with 405 present in Bible classes Sunday morning."
Doyle Banta, 1309 - 9th Avenue S.E., Decatur, Alabama, Sept. '13: "Two baptized in my meeting at Jacks Creek, Tennessee. Five baptized in my meeting at State Line near Ardmore, Tennessee. We have had three restored, on baptized and ten by membership in the past month here at Sommerville Road."
Robert Jackson, Box 5125, Nashville 6, Tennessee: "The Central Church of Christ at Walterboro, South Carolina, which formerly worshipped in a hotel room, is now meeting in their new location at the corner of Neyle and Miller Streets. This congregation is small in number but strong in the faith. The Riverside Drive Church of Christ in Nashville is sending support to this work. Remember the work at Walterboro in your prayers."
Howard Sawyer, Hohman Ave. Church of Christ, Hammond, Indiana, Sept. 14: "On September 1 I closed a meeting with the church in Mankato, Minnesota. Some heard the gospel preached for the first time. One young lady was baptized. Brother Harold Main, a recent convert, ably led the singing. Brother Author Francis, Jr. was a wonderful yoke-fellow. Our work here continues to grow. We had our homecoming Sunday. There were ninety five present. A young married couple were baptized. We are in need of a building and wish to purchase one. We are soliciting outside help on the down payment. Remember this is a wide open mission field. So if you would like to have fellowship in the work, make your contribution payable to the Hohman Avenue Church of Christ and send to, Weldon Calvert, 15613 South Park, So. Holland, Illinois."
Thornton Crews, Route 5, Box 664, Pensacola, Florida, Sept. 15: "This is to report that I am feeling fine and that the work in the Bellview section of our city is beginning to look better and better. We are planning for a great meeting with V. P. Black of Mobile, Alabama to begin the 26th of this month. It will be his eighth meeting in the city and we hope the best one. We are spending more to advertise than has ever been spent here to publicize a Gospel Meeting. I have recently conducted the following meetings: at Crews Town, in Lawrence County, Tennessee, with five baptized and three restored; Gandy in the same county, with four baptized and three restored; Pleasant Valley, in Limestone County, Alabama, with five baptized and three restored; then to Rogersville in Lauderdale County, Alabama, with one restored. These meetings were marked with excellent attendance throughout. Record crowds attended many of the services. It was a pleasure to meet so many people that I knew in the long ago. But it made me feel a bit old to see the grandchildren of those who went to school to me when I followed that profession. I suppose I saw twq hundred people that I baptized in my first efforts as an evangelist. Many were afraid I would not be able to endure the strain of preaching twice each day so soon after my recent operation. But it seems that I actually gained strength right along. Doctor York looked me over last week and said, `No indication of the cancer recurring, and you are in fine shape.' That is mighty good news to me. I will be glad to hold a few meetings in 1955, 1956. Would book these now. When in Florida, look us up. Worship with us at Bellview when passing through our city."
