"If You Don't Succeed, Try, Try Again"
The old adage that serves as the title for this article, appears to be the pass-word of the Roman Catholic Church, who is doing all that she can to secure financial support from the Federal and State Governments in this Nation, for her various and sundry activities.
In the April 13th issue of the St. Louis Register, a big black, bold-face, headline reads, "Urge Welfare Services for Catholic Students." Excerpts from the body of the item read as follows:
"Washington — In a recommendation sent to President Eisenhower the planning committee of the White House Conference on Education has urged that pupils attending Catholic and other private schools receive 'basic health and safety services" at public expense.
"Monsignor William E. McManus, assistant director of the NCWC education Department and one of the 34 persons on the White House 'Committee, said that, although no explicit definition had been made of the terms 'basic health and safety services,' the committee 'evidently intended the phrase to include such items as bus rides, school lunches, polio shots, and routine health examinations'."
"The committee added, however, that 'the extent to which these services should go and the question of which public funds should be used to provide them must be determined at the state and community levels."
Later on in the article, reference was made concerning the subject of the use of public funds for the construction of private (parochial) schools.
The committee also urged 'continued study' of the subject of the separation of church and State.
Certainly Continued Study Is Necessary!
All Americans must continue to be vigilant and on guard, in order to avoid some future all-out effort of the Roman Church to finally achieve her goal of CHURCH-STATE UNION. Of course, NO OTHER SECT should be permitted such an alliance, either.
